Animals on catalina island

California Mule Deer:Are one of the non-native animals on the island and have been around for a while.Mule deer usually eat native plants, grubs, shrubs, shoots, leaves, twigs, and grass.One interesting fact about these deer is that they were introduced to the island in the mid 1929 and 1930s and have been here ever since.


Ground squirrels:The catalina isand ground squirrel is native to the island and one of catalina's island giants. Ground squirrels eat nuts, seeds, fruits, insects, and very small animals.One instresting fact is that the ground squirrel is an island giant because it's size on the island is bigger than mainland squirrels because of competition and predation on catalina island.


Catalina Bison:The catalina island bison arent native to the island but are one of the most popular and rare sightings to see one the island.The bison like to eat grass, weeds, and leafy plants. One interesting fact about these bison is their were origionally brought over from the mainland to film a movie in 1924 but never made the movie.Later the filmakers just left the bison on the island and their still here.


Bald Eagle:The bald eagle is another native animal and has been their for a while to.Bald eagles like to eat primarly only fish and maybe some consumed seabirds or carrion.One interesting fact is that the bald eagle has an eyesight that is 8 times stronger than ours and can reach an altitudes over 10,000 feet.


Santa catalina island fox: The foxes on catalina island are really cute and fluffy and they are native to the island. The foxes like to eat mice, berries, insects, cactus fruit, and lizards. One interesting fact is that the catalina island fox is the smallest fox in the United states and weights 4-5 pounds.
